Sapelly or abebay wood, also known as sapelli, is a quality wood whose origin comes from Tropical Africa. Sapelly is thinner and denser than its usual comparative wood, mahogany. It is predominantly reddish in tone. The sapwood has white to pinkish-gray tones and the heartwood is a deep reddish color. It darkens slightly with age and exposure to sunlight. It has a good natural luster.

Description of wood

  • Sapwood: Pinkish-white to pinkish gray
  • Heartwood: Pink when freshly cut to reddish brown to purplish brown with exposure to light.
  • Fiber: Straight, very often with the fiber slightly intertwined.
  • Grain: Fine to medium.
